STAR CORRESPONDENT
The 2023 Elizabethton Christmas Parade sponsored by Main Street Elizabethton earned the title of the longest parade in modern history as the nearly two-hour parade featured the TA Dugger Band as well as other local high school bands, floats, dancers, fire trucks, and even the Jolly Elf himself showed up as Santa Claus hopped aboard the Elizabethton Fire Department’s ladder truck to close out the parade.
After the morning began with rain showers, the afternoon cleared off to give the parade a beautiful evening as parade watchers flocked to both sides of the streets in the downtown area to get a glimpse of all the colorful floats and lights welcoming the Christmas season to Elizabethton.
The theme of this year’s parade was “Season of Lights” and the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department served as Grand Marshal of the event.
Winners in the float categories were as follows:
- Lynn Valley Baptist Church – First place
- New Bethel Freewill Baptist Church – Second place
- Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church – Third place
As always, the parade was a crowd pleaser especially for the children, who despite the longevity of the parade, waited for Santa to make his big appearance.
