Veterans Day ceremony scheduled for downtown Elizabethton

CITY OF ELIZABETHTON PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER
A ceremony to recognize the veterans who have served from Elizabethton and Carter County will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. at the Elizabethton – Carter County Veterans Walk of Honor.
Bill Carter, Chairman of the War Memorial and Walk of Honor Oversight Committee, will open the ceremony with opening remarks followed by the Invocation from Rev. Nathan Jennings, pastor of First Freewill Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
Committee member Mike Barnett will lead the gathering in the Pledge of Allegiance, while Loretta Bowers will present a patriotic medley and the singing of the National Anthem.
A program will be presented by Army 1SG (retired) David Batchelder, who is the Carter County Veteran Service Officer. The Military Branch Flags will be changed out by the United States Navy National Defense Cadet Corps from Elizabethton High School. Flags will be presented for the ceremony by Tennessee State Senator Rusty Crowe.
Jon Shell will share a bagpipe patriotic musical presentation followed by a special presentation by Army SGT (retired) Robert Barnes.
Rev. Raymond Amos, the retired pastor of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, will close out the ceremony with the Benediction.
Members of the Veterans War Memorial and Walk of Honor Oversight Committee include: Barnett, Tom Hitchcock, Rick Walters, Andrew Wetzel, and Carter.
Everyone is invited to come and participate in this special ceremony to honor those who have bravely served our country to ensure the freedoms we all have today.
