Dee (Davis) Grindstaff, 85, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center of Elizabethton. Dee was born in Elizabethton to the late Lawrence and Alma (Greer) Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Nidiffer; a son, Raymond Nidiffer; a grandson, Jamie Pate; and two sisters, Mary Austin and Ruth Williams.
Dee loved her family and her grandchildren and will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She had worked as a cashier at White’s Grocery and was a faithful member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. She enjoyed working puzzles, sewing quilts, reading and loved road trips to anywhere.
Those left to cherish Dee’s memory include her husband of 31 years, Owen Grindstaff of the home; her children, Lynne Lampkins and husband Charlie of Bristol, Jimmy Nidiffer of Elizabethton, Carol Lyons and husband Randy of Elizabethton and Gary Nidiffer of West Tennessee; her grandchildren, Scott Pate and wife Nicole of Elizabethton, Andrew Pate and wife Nikki of Elizabethton, Jason Nidiffer and wife Marie of North Carolina, Whitney Lyons of Bristol, Tenn., Dr. Aaron Nidiffer and wife Kayla of New York, Michael Nidiffer and wife Marsha of Bristol, Tenn., and Nicholas Lyons and wife Brittany of Elizabethton; her sister, Louise Odum of Elizabethton; her brother, Lawrence Davis Jr. and wife Patsy of Elizabethton; a brother-in-law, Marvin Grindstaff of Elizabethton; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Carver of Elizabethton and Gin Grindstaff of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.
A Celebration of Life service for Dee (Davis) Grindstaff will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 29, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Teddy Lewis and Pastor Terry Jones officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dale Williams and Joyce Salyer. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel between the hours of 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Ensor Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Scott Pate, Andrew Pate, Jason Nidiffer, Whitney Lyons, Aaron Nidiffer, Michael Nidiffer, Nicholas Lyons and Larry Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dwight Proffit, Bo Campbell, Bryan Richardson, Mickey Taylor and Denny Bishop. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center of Elizabethton for the love and care shown to Dee during her illness. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Dee to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
