Johnny “Big John” Charles Rogers, 51, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was the son of James William Rogers and Linda Wallace Oliver, both of Elizabethton.
Johnny attended Elizabethton First Church of the Nazarene. He loved fishing, NASCAR, flying his drone and Cyclone football. Johnny was a former player on the Elizabethton Cyclones football team.
He was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Scott Oliver; maternal grandparents, Raybon and Effie Wallace; and paternal grandparents, Charlie and Marie Rogers.
Those left to cherish his memory in addition to his parents are his stepmother, Elsie Rogers, of Elizabethton; daughter, Crystal Milner, of Elizabethton; a sister, Lisa Rogers Bane (Gary), of Elizabethton; and three cousins, Scott Rogers, Gary Wallace Jr. and Christy Sherfey, all of Elizabethton.
A service to celebrate the life of “Big John” will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 15, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Pastor John Hodge and Pastor Kenley Knight officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Scotty Oliver, Joe White, Kraig Kimbrell, Chad Campbell and Chris Hensley. The family will receive friends between the hours of 2 and 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Elizabethton First Church of the Nazarene, 200 W I Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
