Darrell Wesley Irick, 63, peacefully departed from this world on October 3, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center, following complications from an extended illness. Born February 4, 1960, at Carter County Memorial Hospital in Elizabethton, Tenn., Darrell was a beloved soul who touched the lives of many. He will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering spirit, and dedication to his family and friends.
During his time with us, Darrell embraced life’s joys and faced its challenges with grace and resilience. He found solace in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was spending time in nature, gardening, fishing, camping, or boating, pursuing his many hobbies, or sharing laughter and stories with loved ones.
Darrell’s memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his family, including his cherished wife of 45 years, Lena Irick; his three children, April Nave, Ginger Irick, and Cody Irick; mother, Shirley Irick; two brothers, David Irick and Brian Irick; and seven grandchildren. He was a devoted family man who always put the needs of others before his own.
In honoring Darrell’s memory, we find peace in knowing that he is in the comfort of his Savior’s arms, reunited with those that preceded him in death, including his father Haley Irick and grandchild Everleigh Nave. As we bid farewell to this remarkable soul, let us celebrate his life and the countless ways in which he touched our own.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Centerview Church of Christ on Monday, October 9. Receiving of friends will be from 6 to 7 p.m. with a short service to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation in Darrell’s honor.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at Johnson City Medical Center and the Hospice team that cared for him in his final days. Your compassion and attentiveness will never be forgotten.
Darrell’s departure leaves a void in our lives, but his memory will continue to live in our hearts. May we find solace in the memories we shared and draw strength from the love he bestowed upon us. As we grieve his loss, let us also celebrate the life of a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on the world around him.
