Herman Stout, 86, Hampton, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023, at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Gilbert and Melinda Howell Stout.
Herman was retired from North American Rayon Corporation. He loved to play the fiddle and had played in several bluegrass bands through the years. He had a green thumb and was always proud of his garden. He loved to coon hunt.
Herman was a Charter Member of Braemar Baptist Church where he was choir leader for 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah “Ellen” Whitehead Stout, who passed away August 31, 2022; a son, Andy Clyde Stout; a great-grandson; and his father and mother-in-law of Dennis Cove, John and Bessie Whitehead.
He was the last of his siblings. Those who preceded him in death are Charles, Edward, Mervin, John, Clyde, Earnest, Harvey, J.D., and Donnie; and two sisters, Hazel and Faye. He was known by his nephews and nieces as “Uncle Humpy.”
Survivors include his children, Charlotte Sue (Ted) Ellison, Margie (Rick) Guinn, Amy (James) Lyons, Roger Stout, Lisa Stout, Abby Stout Taylor and Tina (Danny) Adkins; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Brother David Montgomery and Mr. Jerry Stout officiating. The graveside service and interment will follow in the Morton Cave Hill Cemetery officiated by Brother David Montgomery and Randy Stout. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to Amy Greenwell, Angie Oliver and a special thank you to Karen Matherly, his niece, for all the Sunday Suppers. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence.
