Last weekend, my husband, Tim, and I went to Weaverville, N.C., for a weekend getaway. It is right outside of Asheville. We stayed at the Log Cabin Motor Court. Our cabin was quaint and cozy. Log Cabin Motor Court is a Historic National Landmark Circa 1917. They have cabins of all sizes with all sorts of amenities. Our cabin had three rooms: a bedroom, a kitchen, and a small bathroom. The inside looked like a small hunting cabin.

We thought that being in the mountains, the weather would be cooler. But we were wrong! There were shade trees, but it was very humid. Ever since I can remember, I always have had trouble sleeping the first night away from home. So, during Friday night, I would wake up often.

Even though it wasn’t a restful night, I couldn’t wait to explore the town. We got up early Saturday morning and found a neat diner. I had an omelet with cheese and veggies and a piece of rye toasted bread. Tim had a fruit and oats yogurt bowl. It was totally different than any combination we ever had. He also had a piece of toasted rye bread and cheese grits.

After breakfast, we did a little shopping. Tim loves comic book stores. And I love that he loves comic book stores. We went to Morgan’s Comics. He spent some time looking around as I sat in a comfy chair and relaxed. I looked up from my phone, and Tim was coming towards me with a treasure in his hand. It was Egon Spengler with his granddaughter Phoebe, depicting the battle scene from the movie Ghostbusters Afterlife. What a fantastic find for him.

Once we were back at the cabin, I had to nap, and Tim wrote more in his book. Later that evening, we went to a restaurant called The Fireplace Restaurant. The food was terrific. They had a seafood buffet with a great salad bar. Tim ordered a chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. I am usually not a fan of sweet potato anything, but those were very good. I ordered the grilled chicken breast, which was the best I ever had.

Our weekend getaway was almost over. It was time to start packing and loading the car for tomorrow’s trip home. Weaverville is only 1-1/2 hours away from where we live, but it was a great relaxing escape. Close enough so you are not spending a lot of time driving, but far enough that you can explore new places. Until next time, Log Cabin Motor Court.
