DENVER, Colo. – A Buccaneer alum is now a Denver Bronco.
On Tuesday, NFL teams were required to announce their 53-man roster, and ETSU’s Nate Adkins (Knoxville, Tenn.) made the cut with the Denver Broncos.
Adkins, who signed an undrafted free contract with the Broncos back in April, recorded four catches for 28 yards in the preseason. The 6-foot-3, 252-pound tight end had three receptions for 17 yards against the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 20 and added one catch for 11 yards this past Saturday against the Rams.
Adkins, a four-year letterwinner and ETSU graduate, spent the 2022 season at the University of South Carolina. With the Bucs, Adkins played in 43 career games, making 29 starts.
Adkins finished his ETSU career with 73 receptions for 749 yards and four touchdowns. The three-time all-SoCon selection ranked third on the team in receptions (33) and receiving yards (357) in ETSU’s historical 2021 campaign where the Bucs won a school-record 11 games, captured their first outright SoCon title in program history and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs. Adkins hauled in the two-point conversion catch in the memorable comeback win over Kennesaw State in the second round of the playoffs, lifting ETSU to the thrilling 32-31 victory.
Denver opens the 2023 season at home against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. in Empower Field at Mile High.
