Roman Dale Holtsclaw, 79, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Voyd and Mary Hyder Holtsclaw.
Roman was a 1961 graduate of Hampton High School. He served in the Tennessee National Guard and was self-employed in the Construction Industries. He loved hunting, fishing and playing pool.
Roman was a member of Rich Acres Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Sheila “Diane” Holtsclaw, and five brothers, Maynard, Vernon, Allen, Burgess and Gary Holtsclaw.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Jane Holtsclaw; three children, Michael Holtsclaw, Tina (Alan) Smith and Casey (Justin) Hensley; a step-daughter, Karen (John) Roberts; a step-son, Ernie Davidson; 14 grandchildren, Hayden Holtsclaw, Marshal Holtsclaw, Eden Hensley, Abel Hensley, Josh, Jessica and Tabitha Holtsclaw, Sierra McManus, Brooklynn Finley, Michael Smith, Karina Nelson, Jerrad Pfeiffer, MarLynn Pfeiffer and Lakota Roberts; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Mona Lee Phillips; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 31, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Brett Jones officiating. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 1, in the Voyd Holtsclaw Cemetery, Hampton. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday, will be Hayden Holtsclaw, Danny Adams, Carlos McNabb, Mike Long, Mike Depriest and Justin Hensley. Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends. The family would like to express a special thank you for the many prayers and hospitality shown to the family during his illness. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
