In Loving Memory of Robert C. Lesher Sr. (Bob)
Bob Lesher, an 81-year-old man known for his unwavering faith in God and in the Acts 2:38 message, he had a great sense of humor, a strong work ethic and the greatest smile. He passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 21, 2023, with several of his family at his side.
Born on November 19, 1941, he was the beloved husband of Mary Ruth Lesher, a father, papaw and great-grandpa to many. As well as a friend and a source of encouragement to everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Shelton, and three grandchildren, Ladonna Nicole Cobb, Aaron Young and Christopher Polston.
Bob lived a life with devotion to his Church “Experience of Pentecost” in Elizabethton, Tenn., where he worked on many building projects. Anything asked of him, he would make it happen, whether it be a plumbing job, or painting an entire sanctuary single handedly at Harvestime Apostolic Church in Erwin, Tenn.
Bob was a handyman in Erwin for nearly 35 years. His handprint is on many projects in the town of Erwin. Oftentimes he would do the work at his cost or for free, if he knew that the client he was working for had few resources. He was a generous man in so many ways. He was a passionate gardener and loved fishing; he loved to feed his birds and was always on top of keeping the bird feeders full. He was often found driving around Erwin or walking the Erwin Nature Trail with his Boston Terrier named Bo II (second generation Bo, his Boston terrier, there was a first generation Bo I as well).
Bob and his wife Mary Ruth (Ruth) have been together 55 years. Ruth prayed for him for 20 years before he devoted his life to the Lord. Bob witnessed the goodness of God and the message of Salvation and Redemption to all those he came in contact with. In the hearts of those who loved him, Bob will be remembered as a hard working, God-fearing man. Though Bob may be gone from this Earth, we know that he is with the One whom he served for the last 25 years, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ruth; his children, Sarah Young (James), Carla Burch (Jerry), Bobby Lesher (Debbie), Pam Phillips (Dave), and Penny Rowan (Roger); a son-in-law, James Shelton; and 13 grandchildren, James Ryan Young, Daniel Young, Luke Phillips, Kacey Yelton, Zane Phillips, Kayla Kiser, Jared Burch, Jamie Lynn Shelton, Jessa Shelton, Charity Ketcham, Joseph Ketcham, Bobbie Ann Mason, and Beverly Rowan. Bob’s Legacy also includes 12 beautiful great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank the team of amazing individuals who so selflessly cared for him at the end of his life here on earth. The youngest of which is Zane “Zaney” Phillips, who often would take the “night shift” caring for his papaw.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
