A missing endangered six year old from Carter County has been found safe in Florida and the parent who had taken the child is in custody in that state as well.
Shortly before midnight on Thursday, deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic incident in Hampton where the woman told 911 dispatchers her boyfriend had taken her daughter without her permission. When deputies arrived, the woman told officers that her boyfriend, whom she identified as Codie Greer, had taken her child without her permission and told her he was taking the child to Florida. The woman told officers Greer had no custodial rights to take the child and leave.
The child was entered into the national missing persons database and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist in the investigation. CCSO investigators obtained warrants for Greer’s arrest on charges related to the kidnapping and domestic incident.
Late Friday afternoon law enforcement officers in Florida located Greer and the missing child. Greer was taken into custody by officers and the child was released to the custody of a relative and is in the process of being reunited with her mother.
At this time it is unclear if authorities in Florida have placed their own charges against Greer.
More information will be released once Greer has been returned to Carter County on the outstanding warrant.
