Paul G. “Sonny” Ellis, 89, Roan Mountain, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023, at his residence. He was born October 1933 in Roan Mountain to the late Paul and Lillian Hoss Ellis.
Sonny was a graduate of Cloudland High School and East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was retired from the U.S. Government.
Sonny was a member of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church. He was an avid fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Ellis.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Barbara Snodgrass Ellis; his children, Lisa Ellis (Tom) Boyle, Lutz, Fla., Melanie Ellis (Jeff) Avjean, Roan Mountain, and Shawn Ellis (Jeff) Green, Great Falls, Va.; his grandchildren, Lu Smith, Tyler Boyle, Madelyn Avjean, Zachary Avjean, Jessica Smith and Kevin Green; and brother, Randy Ellis, Roan Mountain.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at a later date. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff and nurses of Amedisys Hospice and the staff of James H.
