Clarence Barnett, 87, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at his residence. He was the son of the late Leonard and Rosie Barnett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Herman Barnett; step-mother, Belvia Winters-Barnett; sisters, Stella Barnett-Bowers, Bonnie Barnett-Hughes and Pauline Barnett Oaks-Hitechew; step-sisters, Lana Faye Buck and Robin Lee McMillan; step-brother, Herbert Winters; and great-grandson, Elie Nathaniel Clemons.
Clarence was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and listening to bluegrass gospel music. Clarence loved to fish, work in his flower bed and grow fruit trees. He was a lifetime member of Cove Creek Community Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anna Lee Garland Barnett, of the home; two daughters, Angelia Barnett and Melinda Buchanan of Roan Mountain; grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Woodby (Billy), Johnathan Brad Tolley, Samantha Buchanan, Megan Birchfield (Daniel), Karleigh Buchanan, Machiah Buchanan, Isabella Buchanan, Zoey Buchanan and Casidy Buchanan; foster granddaughter, Madelynn Lavigne; brother, Todd Barnett; step-brother, Samuel Bartlett; great-aunt, Martha Odom; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service and committal will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 20, in the Barlow Cemetery, Big Cove Creek Road, Roan Mountain, with Lucas Hitechew officiating. Active pallbearers are Isaiah Clemons, Mike Buchanan, Stephen Algiere, Casey Pritchard, Sherman Johnson, Daniel Birchfield, Brad Tolley and Machiah Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Lynn Hughes, Reece Hughes, Sam Bartlett, Tony Barnett, Tony Brown, Jeff Shaffer, Dwayne Burger, Kevin Burger, Fred Couch, Mark Stotsky and Jesse Oliver. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Sunday. The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, Dr. Wesley Hansen and friends and neighbors for all their loving care, support and help during this difficult time. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
