Helen Pauline Ahrens, 81, of Elizabethton, passed away peacefully at Johnson City Medical Center on Saturday night, August 5, 2023, surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with COPD and dementia. She was a resident of Hillview Nursing Home.
“Pauline” was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on February 17, 1942, to the late Leonard and Anna May Morgan.
Pauline will be remembered by her many accomplishments such as working in furniture upholstery in High Point, N.C., and running a small business with her late husband called Rich’s Woodshop. One of her favorite pastimes was working in her flower garden. Pauline was also a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church in Elizabethton.
Pauline joined her first husband, Maynard Heaton, and her second husband, Richard Ahrens, in heaven as well as five brothers and one granddaughter, Victoria.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Dean Guinn of Elizabethton; sons, Keith Heaton of Sophia, N.C., Jimmy Heaton of Elizabethton, Tenn., Rocky Heaton of Spencer, Va., Chris Heaton of Blountville, Tenn., and Ernest James Heaton of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Natasha Heaton of Bristol, Va.; Melissa Mann of Elizabethton, who was like a daughter to her. She took pride in being a grandma to 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Wanda Morgan of Ridgeway, Va.; and brother and sister-in-law, James and Shelby Heaton.
The family will hold a service at Tetrick Funeral Home on Thursday, August 10, at 1 p.m. They will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the hour of service. The graveside service will follow in the George Mottern Cemetery. Pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends. Friends may also pay their respects to the family at the home of her sister, Dean Guinn, at 181 Hilton Hill Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
