Martin Pierce Jr., 93, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at his residence. He was born April 7, 1930 in Carter County to the late Martin Pierce Sr. and Shinola Buckles Pierce.
Martin was retired from Mapes Piano String after 20 years of service. He loved farming, hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Verdie Mae Williams Pierce; a granddaughter, Tracy Pierce; two sisters, Callie Pierce and Aline Pierce; and three brothers, Reece C. Pierce, Clarence Pierce and Paul Pierce.
Survivors include his children, Brenda (Tommy Eugene) Campbell, Jerry Pierce, Michael Pierce, Randall Pierce and Eric (Rita) Pierce, all of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Kevin, Jeremy, Justin, Pheba, Eric, Josh and Ashlynn; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Justin Hodges officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, will be Kevin Campbell, Marcus Campbell, Mason Pierce, Jeremy Pierce, Justin Pierce and Eric Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Amedisys Hospice. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
