Helen Rosetta Smith Teague, 85, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Hillview Health Center of Elizabethton. Helen was born in Carter County to the late Carl and Retha Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Teague; her son, Jeffery Teague; her siblings, Frank and wife Margaret Smith, Roland and wife Kathy Smith, Irene and husband Carroll Pierce and Mary Lou and husband Gene Laws; and her cousin and best friend, Bernice “Peggy” Irick.
Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful homemaker and a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ. Helen was a big Tennessee fan who loved to laugh and spend time with family. She never met a stranger, never allowed anyone to leave her house hungry, and loved spreading the word of God to everyone.
Those left to cherish Helen’s memory include her granddaughter, Cassandra and husband David Vanover; her great-grandchildren, Skyler, Karpi and DJ Vanover, and Lexie and Torie Miller; her daughter-in-law, Angie Williams; and several special family members.
A service to celebrate Helen’s amazing life will be conducted at noon Monday, July 31, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dennis Pierce officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Monday, prior to the service.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. following the service on Monday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Dwayne Calhoun officiating. Active pallbearers will be David Vanover, Jeff Dills, Jeffery Dills, Brad Dills, Max Ramsey and Mitch Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be Peyton Williams, Joe Arnett and Matt Springer. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Monday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in Helen’s honor to the Relay for Life in Elizabethton, http://www.relayforlife.org/cartertn.
