Catherine Wooten Armstrong, 92, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Signature Health and Rehabilitation Center of Elizabethton. Catherine was born in Carter County to the late Boyce Enlow “Bob” Wooten and Gwynell Starling Wooten. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy Armstrong Ogg; her sisters, Jane Hoff, Dorothy Wood and Bobbie McLaney; and by her father and mother-in-law, William L. Armstrong Sr. and Jane Foard Armstrong of Rogersville.
Catherine retired from the Elizabethton City School System as an educator. She achieved her Bachelor of Science Degree and Master’s Degree from ETSU and taught at T.A. Dugger Junior High and at East Side Elementary. After retiring from the Elizabethton City School System, she taught Health Education at ETSU.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, United Methodist Women, the Elizabethton/Carter County Humane Society, the Retired Teacher’s Association, the Order of Eastern Star, the ADK Teachers Sorority and a past member of the Elizabethton City School Board for several years.
Those left to cherish Catherine’s many wonderful memories include her husband, William L. “Bill” Armstrong of the home; her son, Dr. William “Bill” Armstrong of Elizabethton; her grandson, William Curtis Armstrong of Elizabethton; two great-grandchildren, Reagan Armstrong and William Robert “Bo” Armstrong; and her special caregiver, Penni Replogle. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Catherine Wooten Armstrong will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Raymond Amos Sr. officiating. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in Catherine’s honor to the Elizabethton/Carter County Humane Society.
