To the Editor:
I agree with the Tennessee Faith & Freedom Coalition (TNFFC) that sent a letter to Gov. Lee that called on him to cancel the August 21, 2023 special session of the General Assembly on gun control in the interest of public safety due to dangerous protests planned by left activists. The TNFFC asks the governor to wait until normal session in January 2024 to make proposals for the legislature to consider as is the normal process of government. The TNFFC letter pointed to strong evidence far left activists, many from out-of-state, intend to disrupt the planned August 21 session and may pose a great threat to the safety of legislators and the public at the Capitol in Nashville.
In May of this year the content of a Communist Marxist agitator meeting was obtained by news outlets. Comments like the following made by Julie Edwards, the Advocacy & Organizing manager for Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi, pervaded the meeting: “Keep in mind the special session is August 21 so everything we learn here today is to be applied towards the special session,” she said. “So we are investing in y’all as activists, with the promise that y’all will show up when we need you to show up. Including August, but also I know some of y’all aren’t from Nashville so we’re trusting y’all to go back in your communities and share this information.” Security expert Aaron Spradlin predicts massive protests and dangerous actions by Marxist anti-constitutional activists. Spradlin states, “This situation is a powder keg. The capacity for violence, agitation and danger for the members of the General Assembly, their staff, law enforcement and the citizens of Tennessee is nearly limitless.” According to M.D. Kittle, “Out-of-state dark money funded anti-gun protestors at the last TN capitol riot.” Pray for Gov. Lee and our State Senators and Representatives. The governor did some great things like getting an armed security officer at every Tennessee public school. A poll of Tennessee voters found they want to remove dangerous people not guns. The Bible says a little folly (foolishness) takes away one’s reputation for wisdom and honor. Having the August special session is foolish!
As a result of being a lame duck and not having to run in another election and pressure to do something Gov. Lee is trying to appease the gun control mob. The TN Legislature needs to reject gun control laws if they want to do what is best for the state and if they want to be reelected! The smart thing to do is cancel the August 21 Special Session and wait until January 2024 to consider changes. A government that wants to take its peoples’ guns wants to be their dictator or executioner. Bad men will always be able to get guns on the black market and are able to kill people without guns. All gun bans do is disarm good people in a useless attempt to keep bad men from getting guns. We need more good people carrying guns. Chicago has the strictest gun control and has the most crime. In fact, Wal-Mart is closing stores there because of the record crime. The Bible says people are, “deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.” Because of this people need to keep their homes and cars locked. Many people in East Tennessee have had their guns stolen out of their unlocked cars. Many women have had their purses stolen out of their unlocked cars while pumping gas. Mankind is sinful and so there’s a need for guns in the hands of responsible Christians and other peaceful people to protect themselves and others. The Bible says self-defense is a God given right and we have a responsibility to protect our family. Christians are commanded to resist the devil in James 4. “Submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” The Bible says the goal of the devil is to steal and kill. The best way to resist the devil is to submit to God, be armed with a firearm and the word of God the Bible. In Luke 22:35-38 Jesus commanded His disciples just before he left them to die on the cross to buy weapons. They said they got two weapons and Jesus said that’s enough. Therefore every church should have at the least two Christians armed with weapons in their church at all times. In a dangerous world that is getting more dangerous in these last days (2 Timothy 3) before the return of Jesus, prayer plus preparedness as the old saying goes, “Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition,” will remain wise.
