Richard “Rick” Reese Brasher, 81, of Johnson City, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 17, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in San Angelo, Texas, a son of the late Marvin Reese Brasher and Josephine Elizabeth Friebel Brasher. He grew up and spent most of his childhood in Fort Worth, Texas.
Rick was a veteran of the United States Army. During his time of service, he received the following decorations and citations: Marksman (Rifle). He and his wife lived 10 years in Tucson, Ariz., prior to moving to Johnson City, Tenn. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Tenn., where he loved singing in the choir.
Rick was a pilot having previously flown for mortuaries and also taught aviation. He worked as a Production Control Manager with Texas Instruments and Raytheon. He loved flying, crafting with leather, bowling and snow skiing. He was a great carpenter. Rick loved spending time and taking trips with his wife Judy, who was the love of his life of 49 years.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Carolyn Howard Brasher; two sisters, Sherry Gora and Jean Lee and husband Jack; one sister, Barbara Lyons and husband Jerry; four nephews, Christopher Howard and wife Lori, Todd Howard, Randy Howard and Charles Howard; nieces, Vicki Gurney and Nina Proffitt and husband Mark; two great-nephews, Cody Howard and wife Hassie and Matthew Proffitt; one great-niece, Melissa Proffitt; and two great-great-twin nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, 1982 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, Tenn. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Dr. Alan King, Dr. Caleb King and Minister Wayne Mottern officiating.
The committal service and interment will be held Friday, July 21, at 10 a.m. at the Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors to be rendered by members of the DAV Honor Guard Post #39 of Bluff City and members of the Army National Guard. Pallbearers will be Christopher Howard, Cody Howard, Todd Howard, Randy Howard, Jordan King, Bruce Hall, Sean Fair and Jason Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Emory Cordell, Kelly Greene, Byrd Deadrick, Jerry Lyons, Matthew Proffitt, and the Prayer Room of Men at Zion Baptist Church. The family would like to extend their thanks to the church family, especially Dr. Alan King and Judy Scalf for all the love and care that was shown.
