Gregory Keith Swanson, 53, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023, at Signature Healthcare, Elizabethton, Tenn. He was born in Yuba City, Calif., to the late Vernon Arthur Swanson and Peggy Roberts Swanson of Elizabethton, on May 6, 1970. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Slagle Swanson.
Gregory was a member of Eastside Freewill Baptist Church where he has loyally served as a church van driver for over 20 years. After completing 14 years of education, he began working in the printing industry, and he retired from the Elizabethton Star. Like so many, he was a fan of the Las Vegas Raiders, best known as the Oakland Raiders.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Peggy Swanson of Elizabethton; one brother, Thomas Joel Swanson (Melissa) of Clear Lake, Calif.; two nephews and one niece.
To honor Gregory’s memory, there will be a graveside and inurnment service on Saturday, July 15, at noon at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Justin Deaton officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kenny Lethcoe. All those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Signature Healthcare and Gregory’s church family for all the loving care given to him during his illness.
