Gary Bishop passed away peacefully at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., on June 6, 2023. He was born on February 29, 1936 in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late Eugene and Mary Bishop.
He is survived by his loving wife Hazel, whom he was married to for 63 years; his sons, Jeb (Shirley) from Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lee (Jennette) from Rochester, Wash.; grandchildren, Chris (Alicia) from Canon City, Colo., Jackson (Hayley) from Jacksonville, Fla., and Ashley (Joey) from Tampa, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Caspian, Ryker, Kennedy, Aiden and Rosalie; his sister-in-law, Brenda; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary served our country as a proud veteran in the United States Air Force. After serving his country, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources, Bureau of State lands, in Tallahassee, Fla., retiring with 35 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and talented craftsman, master blacksmith and gunsmith who especially loved foundry work. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend.
Arrangements are entrusted to and the visitation will take place at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223, on Monday, July 24, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Interment will follow at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218 on Tuesday, July 25, at 11 a.m.
