Rain stayed away from Kiwansis Park on Friday as the Elizabethton Park and Recreation Department received a little smile of fortune from Mother Nature allowing for a large crowd of children along with their guardians to gather for the Mario’s Power Up event which was put on by the department.
With games, bouncing houses, a decked out Mario car, food, cotton candy, popcorn and of course the latest Mario movie release, it was a great time for everyone that came out.
According to Park & Rec Director Mike Mains, the event exceeded last year’s total.
“We bought and cooked 1,000 hot dogs this year and they are all gone,” said Mains. “I think that this year is double and maybe even triple of the one we had last year.”
David Nanney, Recreation Director for the department, manned the grill for the event and said that events like this one was what it was all about.
“It’s great to see all these people come out tonight.” said Nanney. “For some, this provides an opportunity that they possibly wouldn’t have.”
