Wendell Hughie Williams, 77, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital. Wendell was born in Carter County to the late Hughie and Wilma Anderson Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean (Lipps) Williams.
Wendell retired from Mapes Piano String and was a member of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church. Wendell loved fishing and loved his family.
Those left to cherish Wendell’s memory include his son, Jeffrey (Susan) Williams of Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Bethany Williams of Elizabethton; one great-granddaughter, Maylee Williams, also of Elizabethton; and his special friends, Kenny Childers and Betty Williams, both of Elizabethton.
A celebration of Wendell’s life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Rev. Estell Williams officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service.
The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Kenny Childers, Hugh Buckles, Bethany Williams, Bobby Hall, Bobby Collins and Randy Norris. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 9:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to especially thank the doctors and staff at Franklin Woods Community Hospital and to Bobby Hall for the loving and exceptional care they gave to Wendell during his illness.
