MT. HOLLY, N.C. – Jenny Elliott Tench, 75, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. She was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to Lula Taylor Elliott and Red Sim Elliott. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald “DJ” Tench Jr.; her parents; stepmother, Peggy Taylor Elliott; brother, C. Sonny Elliott; and her beloved Uncle Brown and Aunt Hazel “Mama” Elliott.
Jenny was a true sales lady, it was in her blood. She sold car parts, cars at McKinney Chevrolet, insurance, and houses at Century 21 Murphy Rudolph. She truly loved making people happy with their new car or home. In her career, she worked at First Union and Wells Fargo in the mortgage department. She moved to Charlotte in her teens and graduated from West Mecklenburg High School.
She lived in Charlotte and in Mt. Holly. However, her heart was always in Stoney Creek just outside of Elizabethton, Tenn. She always said, “Stoney Creek, that’s my dirt, it’s in my blood.” She was very proud of and loved her little house in Mt. Holly and truly enjoyed cooking and spending time with her wonderful neighbors, friends, and especially her grandson and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Tench Cooke (Gary); grandson, Ean Cooke; sisters, Phyllis “Skipper” Walters (Dean) of Ocean Isle, N.C., and Joann Elliott of Asheville, N.C.; brother, Wendell Elliott (Lynn) of Charlotte, N.C.; nieces and nephews, April Elliott (Steve), Amanda Taylor, Robin Lewis (Chris), Candy Slagle, Scott Walters (Ashley) and Tara Elliott (Stephen); and many more great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 24, at 3 p.m. at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services, Mt. Holly, led by her great-nephew, Nick Colbaugh. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2 until 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carolina Caring Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
