Victim identity of boating incident released

KNOXVILLE – The identity of a man who drowned while swimming from a boat on Fort Loudoun Lake yesterday is being released.
Charles Egbuniwe, 22, of Knoxville, died yesterday in a boating-related incident on Fort Loudoun Lake. Mr. Egbuniwe swam from a vessel towards the shore, went under, and did not resurface.
Witnesses assisted in helping the Knox County Rescue Squad pinpoint the area where the victim went under and searchers located his body with sonar. A diver made a recovery at approximately 4:50 p.m.
This incident marks the 13th fatal boating-related incident in the state this year.
TWRA urges everyone to wear a U.S. Coast Guard Approved life jacket while swimming and boating.
