Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

To the Editor:
On Tuesday, May 30, I visited Walmart with my list to buy groceries and other items I needed. I usually meet and have conversations with friendly people I do not know and conversations with people I do know personally. On this day I experienced a wonderful and meaningful conversation with a lady I did not know; we were looking for items in the same grocery isle. We began commenting on the high prices of certain items. We talked about God and his goodness for providing our needs to be able to pay for the price increases in everything, especially food. We both agreed that our prayer was for working parents with children who were probably having a difficult time paying these higher prices. We concluded our conversation by agreeing that we did not get much “Bang for our Buck” these days and that the prices are higher for everything but the quality and quantity is terrible for some of the products we need.
I finished acquiring most of the items on my list and proceeded to a register to get my items scanned and to check out of the store. The only items I was most disappointed in paying the highest price for was paper towels and mini moon pies. My entire list for groceries and other items cost $173.50 which included a tax 1 and tax 2 ($12.80). I debited my card for the amount and proceeded to leave the superstore, Walmart.
When leaving the store, I noticed there were two to three people who had already checked out and leaving ahead of me that were not stopped by the store attendant. As I came along several feet behind them, the attendant or the person that stands at the entrance as greeter asked me to see my receipt. I replied, “When did you start checking receipts?” He replied, “We are just checking some.” After his reply, I really became “wound up” and agitated; I articulated to him in a loud voice that I refused to show my receipt because I had paid for everything in my cart and had never stolen anything in Walmart. After my response to him and exiting the store, I wondered why he did not ask the other shoppers who exited ahead of me to see their receipts. I wondered “Why Me?”

Sincerely,
