Maryland’s Strohmeyer pedals way to Ballad Health Criterium victory

Andrew Strohmeyer’s visit to Elizabethton from Mount Airy, Maryland turned out to be a pretty sweet visit as Strohmeyer found himself standing at the top of the podium after taking the Men’s Pro/1/2 Ballad Health Criterium race on Sunday afternoon to earn 30 points toward his 2023 Carter County Omnium score.
Strohmeyer was racing under the Kelly Benefits Strategies Elite Cycling banner.
William Seitz of Bham, AL finished in second racing for the Nashville Local Cycling team followed by Derrick Chavarria from Banner Elk, NC representing the Belize team.
In the Men’s Cat 3 race, Evanston, IL native Peter Swinand took the podium as the winner riding for Pony Shop Cyclocross Team. Zac Threatt crossed behind Swinand as the Birmingham, AL native couldn’t catch the leader around the final turn. Threatt rode for Skyway p/b Domestique Coffee.
Fort Wayne, IN rider Jude Serrani rounded out the podium in third place as he cycled for nine13sports p/b Singleton Coaching.
Benjamin Luna from Banner Elk, NC led the pack for the Men’s Cat 4 race as the NorthStar Development rider pedaled his way in front of second-place finisher Cameron Cook from Durham, NC riding under the colors of Sanctuary Winds Racing.
Josh Ott collected third place as the Charlottesville, VA resident guided his Blue Ridge Cyclery Racing p/b Reynolds bike to a top-three finish.
In Men’s Masters 35+/45+ category, Alexander Zambrana from Asheville, NC pushed his Super Squadra p/b Applewood Manor cycle over the finish line in first place while 11elevenCycling’s Rafael Garcia from Cincinnati, OH finished in second place.
David Howe representing Hattie B’s Racing crossed in third place. Howe resides in Nashville.
Masters 40+/50+/60+ saw 70-year-old Kent Bostick from Knoxville take the win on his CTS NWM Cycling Team bicycle. Second place was secured by Henderson, NC native Timothy Tobbe riding for Crosstown Velo. The final podium spot was secured by Mitchell Hopkins riding for Henderson Custom Homes out of Winston-Salem, NC.
The final Men’s Cat 5 (Novice) category saw Knoxville’s Robert Stinson take the victory followed by Matt Sorrells of Evans, GA. Michael May finished in third place as the local product from Johnson City pedaled his Local Motion Cyclery entry to the podium spot.
On the women’s side, Katy Sorrell who hails from South Carolina took the top spot on the podium in the Women Pro/1/2/3/4 category. Salt Lake City, UT resident Katherine Shields enjoyed her visit to Elizabethton by riding to a second-place finish riding with the Peak Fasteners team while Leigh Dukeman riding for Cardinal Classic Cycling from Charlotte, NC finished third.
Finally, in the Women’s 3/4/5 category, Jennifer Thornton-Brooke from Boone. NC took the win. Milligan University’s Morgan Johnson collected second place for her efforts while Trevy Ramos of Johnson City took the third spot on the awards podium.
