Phillip Dean Shaffer Jr., 62, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital, Bristol.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Phillip Dean Shaffer Sr. and Sally Oaks Shaffer.
Phillip was a graduate of Hampton High School. He was a carpenter and worked in maintenance, having worked at Williams Electric for several years. He loved to make things. He was a Christian.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife: Robin Dawn Lewis Shaffer.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Hancotte Shaffer; four step-children, Susan Marsh, John Marsh Jr., Dawn Marsh and Shawn Marsh; seven step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Mark Shaffer and wife Debbie; two nephews, John Shaffer Jr. and Christopher Shaffer; and one niece, Sara Holder.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 27, in the Pierce Cemetery (Siam Community) with Pastor Dennis Peterson officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the graveside service.
