The T.A. Dugger track and field team was looking to put an exclamation point on their stellar season Saturday at Austin Peay University in Clarksville at the TMSAA State Championship Track Meet.
With six female qualifiers and one male, the Jr. Cyclone girls represented Elizabethton and T.A. Dugger well as the girls finished in eighth place in the AA large school team scoring.
Those participating included Liahna Nave (discus, shot put), Vella Nave (800m, 4×100 meter relay), Chyanne Everette (100m, 4×100 meter relay), Malani Everette (4×100 meter relay), Addison Merryman (4×100 meter relay), and Braylon Britt (Boys 100m).
The final results showed Liahna Nave finishing in third place in discus as she broke the meet and school record for the event and also finished fifth in the shot put. The previous record in the discus was set in 2017 at 102-6 and on Saturday, was broken by three separate throwers with West Collierville‘s Alexa Haynes coming away with the victory and the record. Haynes’ toss of 108-7 was just a foot better than Robertsville’s Alani Mitchell, who threw 107-7, which was a little over a foot better than Nave, who threw 106-3.
Vella Nave also broke a school record as she crossed the finish line in third place in the 800 meter with a time of 2:25.43.
Bringing home an 11th-place finish in the girls 100 meter was Chyanne Everette. The girls 4×100 meter relay team of Malani Everette, Addison Merryman, Vella Nave, and Chyanne Everette finished 14th in the 4×100 meter relay.
Britt finished strong to close out his Jr. Cyclone career finishing in 16th place in the boys 100 meter race.
