“Land of Oz,” a young girl’s journey to find there is no place like home, will come to life on stage in Watts Dance Studio’s Showcase Dancers’ adaptation during a free performance on Sunday, April 30, at 2:30 p.m. on the Harold McCormick Elementary School Gym stage. When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The adventure takes them on a journey to get a broom, involving a good and bad witch and a cast of characters. The second act will feature a variety of dance forms including Contemporary, Jazz, and Hip Hop.
“Land of Oz” marks the 33rd installment in the continuing Watts Dance Studio series bringing arts into the local schools with school and community performances. It is the group’s hope that the performances raise the level of appreciation for the art of dance and musical theater.
Watts Dance Studio is home to the Showcase Dancers. They are an auditioned group of performers seen regularly throughout the area. The Showcase Dancers have performed in the Bahamas, various cruise ships, Walt Disney, and with the Moscow Ballet.
