Tell of your joy to each other by singing the Songs of David and church songs. Sing in your heart to the Lord.
Eph 5:19 NLT
Sunday is traditionally called “The Lord’s Day” and Sunday 3/26/23 was given to the Lord in songs and singing from the heart. It was good to give all we had to the Lord without preferences and pleas. The Lord was honored by beautiful violin music by Lindsay Williams and then the congregation sang “Angus Dei” (Lamb of God) to a beautiful acapella crescendo as “Amens” rang out around the pews. We just finished a series called “Heavenly Worship” and we got a taste of that with joy coming from all involved.
That night at FCC we had supposed a fundraiser concert. These events can be all about money sometimes with people pulling and pressing for funds and then the concert is just an afterthought. Well, I can report to you that this WAS NOT the case on Sunday night. First Christian Church of Elizabethton had a fundraising concert to benefit Restore Ukraine, a local nonprofit dedicated to humanitarian aid. The variety and quality of music was unmatched. I have been to concerts in large metro cities that were not as well performed. There was Classical music, Inspirational Gospel, Contemporary Christian and Traditional hymns all performed by Godly men and women who simply wanted to serve the Lord and help our brothers and sisters in war torn Ukraine. The highlight of the night for me was the community choir all dressed in royal purple singing “ you are the source of my strength” and then the congregation singing along.
This Lord’s Day was filled with telling our joy to one another by worshiping God and by helping needy people in Ukraine. It is an amazing thing when we focus on worshiping God and loving others. Thank you, Lord, for a great day: The Lord’s Day.
Michael Klaus, Sr. Minister, First Christian Church.
