The Carter County Youth Basketball League made a donation to the Carter Compassion Center on Monday, March 13. CCYBL President Mary Lewis presented Carter Compassion Center President Brandon Young with a check for $1,569.
CCYBL raised the money by hosting a Bill Oliver Tournament with 14 teams at Valley Forge and Keenburg Elementary Schools. This yearly event, named in honor of the founder of CCYBL, Bill Oliver, raises money for a non-profit or needy family. In the 2022-2023 basketball season, CCYBL was made up of 42 basketball teams and 14 cheerleading squads with kids ranging in age from 4-11 years old and it is one of the largest youth leagues in the state.
The Carter Compassion Center is a non-profit organization serving Carter County residents in need and also offers classes in literacy, parenting, stress management, and more. The center encourages churches and aid organizations to learn more about their work and consider setting up recurring donations or encouraging their members to become mentors or volunteers at the center. Anyone interested in volunteering for or donating to the center can find more information at cartercompassion.org or by calling 423-930-3777.
