Wayne J. Treadway, 72, of Dandridge, Tenn., passed away Wednesday morning, March 8, 2023, following a brief illness. He was born on January 1, 1951, to the late Paul and Christine (Daugherty) Treadway in Elizabethton, Tenn.
Wayne graduated from Hampton High School in 1969 and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1975 where he was a Plant and Soil Science Major. He was in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1970-1976.
He was member of the First Baptist Church of Dandridge where he served as deacon and leader of the Royal Ambassadors and was a member of the Volunteer Baptist Disaster Relief Team.
Wayne worked 30 years for the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Services as soil conservationist. He devoted many hours of volunteer work with the Dandridge Recreation Facilities by helping raise funds for the purchase of land, overseeing the construction of baseball, softball, and football fields which is now known as the “The Field of Dreams.” He also worked with the town of Dandridge and served on committees to help design and build the Dandridge Community Center. He served two years as President of the Tennessee Valley Sports Turf Management Association and worked closely with Little League Baseball in Stewart County and South Jefferson County; he served 14 years as District 4 Little League Program.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and sister-in-law, Sherry L. Kyte.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 48 plus years, Glenda Lipford Treadway; loving son, William Treadway of Murray, Ky.; grandson, Cameron Holland of Benton, Ky.; sister, Zetta Hyder of Bluff City, Tenn.; and brothers, Kenneth and Lynn Treadway, both of Elizabethton.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O .Box 246, Dandridge, TN or the Field of Dreams (Baseball and Softball), P.O. Box 249, Dandridge, TN 37725.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Justin Terrell officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., prior to the service. A graveside interment service with Military Honors will be Monday, March 13, at noon at Happy Valley Memorial Park, 2708 Elizabethton Hwy., Johnson City, TN.
