Carter County is under a high wind warning until 4 a.m. Saturday morning.
According to an alert from the National Weather Service, high winds are expected to arrive in the area around 10 a.m. Friday, continuing throughout the day and into Saturday morning.
Southwest winds of 25 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, are expected throughout northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia.
The damaging winds are likely to blow down trees and power lines, and widespread power outages are expected. Saturated grounds will increase the likelihood of tree damage.
Travel will be difficult in high-profile vehicles.
Experts warn that people should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm and avoid windows.
