GREENWOOD, Ind. – ETSU graduate guard Jamarius Hairston (Salisbury, N.C.) earned Academic All-District honors as the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced its men’s basketball academic awards earlier this week.
The award (formerly CoSIDA Academic All-District) celebrates upperclassmen who have appeared in over 50 percent of games and own at least a 3.5 GPA. For undergraduates, the player must be at the represented institution for at least one year. Furthermore, graduate transfers who finished their undergraduate degree elsewhere are eligible in their first season as long as they have a 3.5 GPA or higher at both levels.
Hairston, a graduate transfer from Lees-McRae, has played in 23 games (nine starts) this season for the Buccaneers. The Salisbury, N.C. native is averaging 5.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 17.5 minutes of play. Hairston is also shooting 39 percent from beyond the arc. Hairston has scored in double figures five times this season, including a season-high 14 points at Samford. The Buccaneer guard posted a double-double against Chattanooga on Jan. 28, where he finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. In a win at Chattanooga, Hairston totaled 10 points and seven rebounds.
Hairston, who graduated with a 3.71 grade point average, earned a degree in Business Administration from Lees-McRae, while he’s currently working on a Sport Management Masters at ETSU. Hairston has a 3.66 GPA in his master’s program.
