Elizabethton woman charged with Introduction of Contraband Into a Penal Facility

JONESBOROUGH – On Feb. 23, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies charged Tammy Lee Mathena, 51 of Elizabethton, with Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Facility.
Deputies were booking Mathena into the Washington County Detention Center on charges of two misdemeanor counts of shoplifting/theft of property. During a routine search conducted as part of the booking process, deputies discovered two baggies hidden on Mathena. The baggies contained a clear, crystal-like substance resembling methamphetamine.
The new charge added $5,000 to Mathena’s total bond, bringing it to $7,000. Her first court date was on Feb. 23.
