Irma Bernice Trusler Whitlock, Johnson City, made an address change on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the Agape Rehabilitation & Nursing Center at the age of 90. She had been a resident at Agape – A Waters Community for four years. She was a lifetime resident of Johnson City and Elizabethton area.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Henry D. “Bill” Whitlock; her parents, Samuel Lewis and Rose Ellen Large Trusler; sons, Anthony Lynn and Billy Ray Whitlock; daughter, Ruth Ann Guy; sons-in-law, Ray Allen Guy, Fornie Danner and William Worley; grandson, Jonathan Guy; sisters, Pauline Mills, Margaret Hite, Mary Bell Cottle, Georgia Estep, Louise Woodside and Viola Perry; and her brothers, Carl, Robert, Lawrence and Paul.
Irma was a member of the Bible Church, King Springs Road, Johnson City. She loved to quilt.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Worley, Concord, N.C., Mary Ruth Danner, Elizabethton, and Jeanette Harding (Clark), Blackmore, Va.; two sons, John (Teresa) Whitlock, Johnson City, and Timothy (Erica) Whitlock, Kemper, Texas; her grandchildren, Sara Brown, Steven (Michelle) Chadwick, Charles (Andrea) Danner, Mark Harding, Crystal (Richard) Smith, Samuel (Allie) Guy and Rebecca (Ben) Whitlock; her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ella Brown, Gracie Chadwick, Seth and Kendra Harding, Carter, Ellie, Oliver, Alex and Chloe Gladden, Alex Hatley, Zoey Smith, Flora Smith and Hayleigh Guy; her sister, Shelby (John) Harriott; her brother, Glen (Connie) Trusler, Burgaw, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Barnes, Pastor Alan Evans and her great-grandson Carter reading a poem. Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Patrick Hyder, Charles Danner, Lowell Shell, Steven Chadwick, Marvin Webb and Paul Cottle. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Agape – A Waters Community for the love and care they gave our mom, and also the staff at Avalon Hospice Care. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
