On Thursday, February 16, 2023, Margaret Phyllis (Rouse) Emert took the hand of her Lord and Savior to be reunited with her husband and loved ones at the age of 81. Margaret was a life-long native of Carter County and the only daughter born to the late James Lloyd Rouse and Mattie Geneva (Webb) Rouse. Margaret was also preceded in death by her beloved husband (whom she was married to for two months short of 60 years), Reverend Jerry Dean Emert; her brothers, John Rouse and Wayne Rouse; and a sister-in-law, Linda Rouse.
Margaret, along with her husband, was a graduate of Hampton High School and a member of Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church where she was very involved in all aspects of the church. Margaret retired from American Air Filter and also worked at Raytheon for many years. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and spending time with her beloved cats.
Those left to cherish and remember Margaret’s many wonderful memories include her brothers, Luther (Thelma) Rouse, Jim Rouse, and Bob (Pansy) Rouse, all of Elizabethton; two sisters-in-law, Janet Rouse and Dicie Rouse; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 19, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Mark Potter and Pastor Tyerell Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The committal and entombment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, February 20, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from nephews and friends. Rev. Carl Grindstaff will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 10:15 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Margaret to the Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church, 1352 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643. A special word of thanks to the nurses and staff of Signature Health Care of Elizabethton, who went beyond expectations to take great care of Phyllis during her stay there. Words of comfort can be sent to the Emert family through our website, www.tetrickfuneralhome.com.
Tetrick Funeral Home-Riverside Chapel, 211 North Riverside, Elizabethton, TN 37643 (423) 542-2232, is honored to serve the family of Margaret Phyllis (Rouse) Emert.
