The Lady Falcons of Volunteer swooped their way into John Treadway Gym looking to take an upset win over the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones in Upper Lakes Conference action.
However, it didn’t take long to find that the Lady Cyclones weren’t playing games as Coach Lucas Andrews’s squad dispatched the Lady Falcons with ease, 73-47.
Feeding off a 38-24 halftime advantage, the Lady Cyclones just kept their foot on the gas in the second half to cruise to the victory.
Olivia Holly sparked the first-half run for Elizabethton, sizing up the nets for ten points – six coming from beyond the arc. Lina Lyon tossed in nine, with Renna Lane collecting seven. Marlee Mathena and Katie Lee chipped in with six and four points, respectively. Reiley Whitson added two.
Kendra Huff, Emerson Head, and Emily Wyatt scored five points apiece in pacing Volunteer in the first 16 minutes.
The Lady Falcons came out to find the Lady Cyclones ready to clip wings quickly as the big three of Holly, Lyon, and Lane were just too much for Volunteer to defend as the three Lady Cyclones each bagged ten points apiece in the final half of play.
Holly, who was tuned in from three-point range, sinking four in the game, led the charge for all scorers with a game-high 20 points. Lyon continued a strong senior campaign by adding 19 points, almost virtually unstoppable driving to the glass.
Lane followed up a strong previous game by tallying 17 points. Mathena and Lee finished with six points each, while Whitson contributed five.
Head and Wyatt finished with 11 points each to lead the Lady Falcon attack.
