Kylie Blevins signs letter of intent with Milligan College

On Wednesday at Unaka High School, senior Kylie Blevins signed a letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic career and play softball at Milligan College for head coach Wes Holly. Blevins has been a standout centerfielder for head coach Kenneth Chambers and is looking forward to her senior season while looking ahead to furthering her endeavors at the next level.
“I will be playing centerfield and will probably be a utility player at first,” Blevins said. “Coach Holly has a great program and I am looking forward to learning under him and playing with some great players. It is a great environment at Milligan. It is close to home and that was a factor in my decision.”
Blevins will graduate from Unaka with an Associate Degree as she has taken college-level courses during her four years at Unaka High School and will pursue a course of study aimed at becoming a physician assistant.
“She has worked very hard and we are so proud of her,” said Blevins mother Stacie Ingram. “She has played ball since she was small. She started in tee-ball and in her first at-bat, she walked away from the tee and the coach had to pick her up and put her back in the batter box, but since then, she has really been involved in the game. She played travel ball and was coached by Terry Pierce and continued in middle school. She is very competitive and is a killer centerfielder.”
Always a solid defender, Blevins boasted a .857 fielding percentage in 2022 with 63 chances and 50 putouts with four assists while hitting .311 with 12 RBI and a .674 OPS. Blevins knows her next challenge with be the bigger gaps in the college game and is looking forward to that challenge saying, “I love running down balls in the gaps. I always loved running down balls hit in the gaps. Softball is a short game and it depends on quickness and that is what I think I do best. Ever since I started playing I have worked hard to be a good player and really fell in love with the game.”
Unaka head coach Kenneth Chambers said of Blevins, “She is someone I am counting on to be a leader for this team. She is very unselfish and is willing to play anywhere we need her to play. I may need her to play shortstop this season and I’m sure she will do a great job there. We have been lucky here to have girls that have been willing to be leaders through the years like Hailey Gillman and Lyndie Ramsey and I know she will be following in their footsteps.”
