SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) captured the first Southern Conference Athlete of the Week award of the 2023 indoor track and field season as the league office announced its weekly winners on Wednesday.
Maduwa picked up his first Athlete of the Week honor after posting a pair of podium finishes at last weekend’s VMI Invitational. On Saturday, Maduwa won gold in the 800m with a time of 1:52.21, marking his second career win in the event, while placing third in the 500m on Friday with a mark of 1:04.43. Maduwa also ran of leg on the 4x400m relay that finished fifth with a time of 3:21.64.
The Bucs head to the Music City this weekend where ETSU competes in the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
