The Lady Landers came out strong on Tuesday night to take a 19-point conference victory over Unaka in Roan Mountain.
Cloudland would take a first-quarter lead of 11-5 and never look back to win the game, 59-30. Ella Benfield would lead the way for the Lady Landers with 24 points. Lyndie Ramsey would try to keep Unaka in the game early by scoring all of the Lady Rangers points in the first quarter and finishing the night with 20 points. With the 20 points, Ramsey would top 2,500 points for her career and become Carter County’s all-time leading scorer. Saharra McKinney would contribute 15 points for the Lady Landers, while Haley Taylor would contribute five points for the Lady Rangers. The Lady Landers would raise their record to 2-0 in the conference and 11-5 overall, while the Lady Rangers drop to 1-2 in the conference and 5-13 overall.
In the boy’s action, Cloudland boys defeated Unaka 66-51 in a conference matchup on Tuesday night. The Highlanders were led by the trio of Ryan Sexton, Eli Morgan and Nick Caraway, who finished with 14 points apiece. The Rangers were led by Mason Wilson and Joe-Z Blamo with 13 points apiece and Austin Lambert with 11. Cloudland raises their record to 1-1 in the conference, while Unaka drops to 0-3 in the conference and 3-15 overall.
Cloudland will travel to Johnson City on Friday night to take on University High in a conference showdown and Unaka will travel to Afton for a nonconference matchup against Chuckey Doak on Friday night.
