Mary “Nancy” Shoun Grindstaff, 76, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023, at her home surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Virginia Shoun.
Nancy was a member of the Unaka High School Class of 1964. She worked several years for the Carter County School System serving as a bus driver, substitute teacher and an in-school detention monitor.
Nancy was a retired farmer and dairy operator. She loved her cows and burros. She was an active member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her daughter, Ruby Jean.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, Carrell Grindstaff; children, Cindy (Greg) Johnson and David (Dana) Grindstaff; grandchildren, Lyndsi Grindstaff, Anthony Johnson and Ryan Johnson; brother, Bill (Juli) Shoun; sisters, Wendy Shoun, Susan (Kirby) Taylor, Lori (Terry) Trivett, Vicki (Jimmy) Berry; and several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
A service to celebrate the life of Nancy will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 5, at Poplar Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Wright officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church. The family will receive friends between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence at any time.
