Mary Viola Stevens, 89, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late Blanche Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mack Lionel Stevens; a daughter, Patsy Bowers Hicks; two sisters, Ollie Nave and Dema Cain; and a granddaughter, Samantha Washington.
Mary was of the Baptist Faith. She retired from Life Care in Elizabethton.
Mary enjoyed reading books. She liked to garden and loved spending time with her dog, Sweet Pea.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Charlotte Freeman and husband Pete of Elk Park, N.C., and Judy Stevens Baird and husband Eddie of Elizabethton; and grandchildren, Shelley Morales of Kingsport, Brent Grindstaff, Loretta Beam, Ray Beam, Melinda Beam, Justin Grace, James Peterson and Jason Grace, all of Elizabethton. Several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.
The family will have a graveside service at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 31, at Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Those that would like to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 3 p.m. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make a donation to your local animal shelter.
