Fred James Shell, 91, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born June 22, 1931 in Carter County to the late Frank and Bonnie Hoss Shell.
Fred was a retired carpenter and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed riding through the mountains.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Dolan Shell; a brother, Leon Shell; and a sister, Norma Shell.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Holden; four sons, Joe (Mary) Shell, Terry Shell, A.J. (Jill) Shell and Richard Shell; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Thursday, December 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Richard Stout officiating. Music will be provided by Logan Russell and Emma Shell. Interment will follow in the Richardson Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Thursday prior to the service.
