With Christmas just around the corner, an Elizabethton woman received an early Christmas present. Patti Huszai received the key to her newly completed home during a Home Dedication Ceremony held on Friday, Dec. 16, at 608 Blevins Avenue in Elizabethton.
Groundbreaking for Patti’s Holston Habitat for Humanity house was held earlier in the year on July 14. The home was built with the help of 170 individual and group volunteers who contributed 1,300 construction hours under the leadership of Habitat Site Supervisor, Eddie Bales. The two-bedroom, one-bath home was sponsored by Sam, Chris, Steve, and Joe in memory of their Uncle Charles “Dude” LaPorte with a generous $25,000 contribution, and Word Fellowship Church contributing $2,500. “The support we have received from Carter County residents on this project has been amazing to witness,” says Holston Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Manager, Mandy Penz. “I can think of no better gift to give this holiday season than the time, energy, and love that has been poured into Patti’s home by our amazing volunteers!”
Holston Habitat’s mission is to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities, and hope. Patti is the 317th family served since the organization’s founding in 1985 and the 24th project completed by Holston Habitat in Carter County. “God has blessed me this year with a new home, a new granddaughter, and stability in my life,” says Patti. “The volunteers and other Habitat supporters will never know what this has meant to me. It is a dream come true!”
Affordable Habitat home mortgages, like the one Patti will have, allow families to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
