Police respond to noise complaint, find man shot to death inside wrecked car

Elizabethton Police officers were called to the area of Oakmont Drive to a report of a vehicle driving up and down the road revving its engine about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
While officers were en route to the noise complaint, a second 911 call reported shots fired in the area. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a two-vehicle crash. One of the vehicles was occupied by an unresponsive male who had been shot and was dead. There were no other occupants found in either vehicle.
EPD officers were assisted by Carter County Sheriffs’ Deputies, Carter County EMS, and the Elizabethton Fire Department. Elizabethton’s Criminal Investigation Division and Special Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to continue the investigation and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting the investigators.
Officers and investigators cleared the scene just before 7 a.m. However, the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding this incident. There is no continued threat to the community involving this incident.
