Halloween came and went in downtown Elizabethton on Monday as local merchants filled the buckets of hundreds of dressed up creatures from princesses to blood-sucking vampires in the annual trick-or-treating held on the sidewalks in downtown.
The event started at 3 p.m. and was supposed to end at 4:30 p.m. but the lines still stretched to almost J’s Corner for much of the event as merchants handed out goodies until the last piece of candy cleared their buckets.
There were tons of smiles on the faces of the children who had come out to thankfully receive the sweets that were dropped in each bucket as the chain of trick-or-treaters started at one end of the downtown and proceeded to the end before circling back up and around to the other side.
Kids were not the only ones who took advantage of the day set aside to dress up as many adults — parents and grandparents — also came dressed to walk along with their children.
A great time was had by one and all as the merchants once again provided a memorable time for those who didn’t let a few clouds stop them from having a great day of Halloween trick-or-treating.
