Even though the Jarrett family has been steadily picking apples around their orchard for weeks, there are still plenty of apples left on the trees to pick. The orchard has 21 different varieties of apples to choose from including these Lori Glos, which are sweet, but slightly tart tasting.

The tools needed for picking apples are pretty simple, your hands and a bag that hangs around your shoulders that has a release in the bottom of it. There is one special tool, however, that helps Harold Jarrett get to the top of the tree, both from the outside and the inside, and that’s these special tripod ladders with just a single back leg on them that makes it easier to get in-between the branches of the trees.

Jarrett's Apple Orchard’s marketplace, located on the orchard’s property, welcomes all comers. Like this beautiful five-month-old Yorkshire Terrier named Hope. Momma Sandy Robbison says she rescued Hope in Nashville when she was just eight weeks old.

People come to Jarrett's Apple Orchard not only for the apples but also for the wide variety of vegetables also grown there. Shelby Cox, from Lakeland, Fla., selects heads of cabbage and checks out the different squashes available in the market.
Just a little ways past Roan Mountain State Park is an apple orchard that offers 21 different varieties of apples.
