Gwina Jackson Ellis, age 98, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in Elizabethton.  Gwina was born in Honaker, Virginia, the daughter of the late James T. Jackson and Effie (Mullis) Jackson.  In addition to her parents, Gwina was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Roy Dayton Ellis; and a son, Harold Ellis.
Gwina was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family and loved her Lord.  She was of the Baptist faith and was a wonderful cook, seamstress and stitcher.  She was always on the move and would do anything she could for anyone in need.  Gwina enjoyed her flowers and garden and loved being a part of the Red Hat Society.
Those left to remember Gwina and her precious memory include her three children, Linda (Gary) Autry, Roy Ellis and Dennis (Sheila) Ellis; her grandchildren, Jarrod (Megan) Ellis and Sophia Ellis and fiancé, Ian Wiggins; one great-granddaughter, Hayes Wilder Ellis; and one sister, Alsie Byrd.
A celebration graveside service to honor Gwina’s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Chris Hughes officiating.  Active pallbearers will be Roy Ellis, Dennis Ellis, Gary Autry, Steve Hubbard, Jarrod Ellis, Ian Wiggins, Steve Burrough, and Mark Smith.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Campbell, J’s Corner staff, Sam Ellis, David Bumpus, the Stemwinder Band, and Ernie Campbell.  Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 PM on Monday.  The guest register book will be at the graveside for family and friends to acknowledge their presence.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the care team of Amedysis Hospice of Elizabethton, Appalachian Orthopedics, Teresa Julian at Lambert’s Produce and Sylvia at Hughes and Sons for their love, care and compassion shown to Gwina and her family.
